Emerging from the successful, six-year run of the Flash Forward Festival, the FlashPoint Boston festival continues the tradition of honoring the Northeast’s contributions to the art of image making.
Celebrating photography on all levels—student to professional to avid enthusiast—FlashPoint embraces the region’s visual heritage while also exploring its contemporary visual culture.
Offering free programming spanning three weeks in the fall of 2017, festival highlights will include educational lectures, celebrity workshops and seminars, pop-up galleries, and outdoor art displays and events—all culminating in the Griffin Museum of Photography’s prestigious New England Portfolio Review and Focus Awards on October 22, 2017.
Under the umbrella of the Griffin Museum of Photography’s 25 year reputation for stellar photographic exhibitions and educational programming, the Flashpoint Festival intends to bring more institutions together around the ideas of community, art and photography.
Thus far, Flashpoint Boston via the Griffin has partnered with Boston University, SoWa Boston, Lesley University College of Art and Design and the Photoville Fence to host events, exhibitions and programming during the festival’s launch in the fall of 2017.
The FlashPoint organizational committee is comprised of arts industry professionals—dedicated to expanding community outreach through this innovative photographic initiative that is timelier than ever. In this age where it is estimated that over 1 trillion images will be taken this year, FlashPoint Boston invites everyone to experience and celebrate photography’s endurance as a medium and staple in our visual experience.
