DIY Day at the SoWa Open Market: Sun-Prints

  • SoWa Open Market 450 Harrison Ave. Boston, MA 02118 (map)
Sun Print

Join us on Saturday and Sunday for DIY Day at the SoWa Open Market, featuring sun-prints with staff from the Griffin Museum of Photography. Drop in at 1:00 pm for workshop as part of FlashPoint Boston.  Demonstrations will be offered every half hour between 1:00 and 3:00. DIY tents will be located at the entrance of the artisan market at 450 Harrison Ave. Bring any special objects you'd like to make your sun-print with!

Sun prints are the oldest non-silver photographic printing process. A negative image can be produced by placing a leaf upon paper treated with this solution and exposing to sunlight for 10 minutes. The paper will retain the image of the leaf after it has been rinsed with water. Once the paper dries, parts that were exposed to the sun will turn a shade of deep blue, while parts that were covered by the leaf will remain white.

While you're here, explore the Sowa Open Market. Now in its 14th season, the award-winning SoWa Open Market is Boston's largest celebration of local artists, farmers, chefs, brewers and musicians. Driven by the goal of building community and supporting small businesses, the SoWa Open Market provides an opportunity for local artisans to share their products and passions. Enjoy a vibrant landscape of artist studios, galleries, boutiques, and design showrooms. Meet the makers, explore the neighborhood, and shop local this weekend.
