SoWa Art Walk

  • SoWa Boston 460 Harrison Avenue Boston, MA, 02118 United States

Now in its twelfth year, the annual SoWa Art Walk takes place on the first Sunday in May … and in 2016, that’s May 1st.

The SoWa arts district is located on the eastern fringe of Boston’s South End, the nation’s largest intact Victorian row house neighborhood.  Long famed for its concentration of creative restaurants, the South End for decades has also hosted hundreds of artists who found freedom and cheap work space in its long disused 19th century factory buildings.  As successive generations have breathed new life into America’s core urban areas, neighborhoods like SoWa that have made a place for and protected artistic expression are now home to well-established artist studio buildings.  Every year in the spring, SoWa’s studios are open to all comers for one day … an opportunity for the public to explore the area, discover new art and artists, and to celebrate the new American art century.

In addition, SoWa is now home to the largest collection of contemporary art galleries in the city.  With forty-seven art galleries clustered in a two-square-block area, talent from all over the world is well represented with a monthly change-over of artists and shows.

The SoWa Art Walk opens the studio and gallery doors all over SoWa on Sunday, May 1, 2016 from 11:00AM to 6:00PM.  Not to be missed.
