Kathryn Graven’s paintings are an occasion for color, texture, memories and creative energy to talk to each other. Scraps of fabric, broken dishes, old jewelry, lost and found objects: these are the materials that work their way into Graven’s art. Using mixed media and acrylic paint, Graven tells new stories by repurposing old stuff. Graven's artistic vision is to combine her joy of daily life with her never-ending love of travel and foreign cultures.
Graven studied mixed media and abstract painting at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, and at the Massachusetts College of Art, Boston. A graduate of Stanford University and of Columbia University’s Graduate School of Journalism, Kathryn worked as a correspondent for The Wall Street Journal in Tokyo and New York. She also taught international business reporting and feature writing at Boston University’s Graduate School of Journalism.
