The Massachusetts State Committee of the National Museum of Women in the Arts invites you to an Exhibition: Heavy Metal / Massachusetts Women to Watch 2017.
In this fifth installment of the Women to Watch exhibition series, artists enthusiastically investigate the physical properties and expressive potential of metalwork, long considered to be the domain of men. Featuring hand-built sculptures, vessels, and objects for personal adornment, the exhibition comprises innovative works by Massachusetts artists.
Women to Watch is an exhibition program, held every two to three years, developed specifically for NMWA's national and international outreach committees. Each of these exhibitions features emerging and underrepresented women artists from the states and countries in which the museum has outreach committees.
The five women artists were chosen by Emily Zilber, Ronald C. and Anita L. Wornick Curator of Contemporary Decorative Arts, Museum of Fine Arts, Boston. They are Venetia Dale, Cynthia Eid, Linda Kindler Priest, Donna Veverka, and Heather White. These five artists' works have been submitted to the National Museum of Women in the Arts for consideration for inclusion in the Heavy Metal/Women to Watch 2018 exhibition in Washington. D.C., opening June 2018.
