SoWa Vendor Spotlight: Speakeasy Travel Supply Co

It's officially summer which means one thing: VACATION!  And where better to stock up your carry-on and luggage than at the SoWa Open Market?

The lovely couple (and dog Chachy) behind , Speakeasy Travel Supply Co will change the way you travel forever.  And they should know, believe it or not, Beth and Randy were travel-bloggers before creating these fantastic travel accessories.  And it was that "day job" that lead them to create the Speakeasy Hidden Pocket Travel Scarves.  What's a hidden pocket scarf you ask? Well remember the last time you were abroad, you weren't sure whether to leave your passport and extra travel cash in the hotel safe or perhaps stick it somewhere in your purse?  Well with these scarves, the hidden pocket provides you a safe place to tuck your valuables no matter where you are in the world.

Beth says she was on the road when a light bulb went off, "I wished my scarf had a secret pocket in it. I could stash my important items in there and no one would ever know.... the perfect travel item"!

Since then, they've been featured on Buzzfeed, Mashable, Hello Giggles, Conde Nast, CNN Travel, Yahoo Travel, Airfare Watchdog, Eagle Creek, Smarter Travel and so much more.  Being travelers themselves, the trio know exactly what it's like to be on the road, on a boat, or in the jungle and say quality and love goes into each hand-made scarf. The pocket is truly hidden and accessible only by a zipper. Our zippers stay closed until they are opened so you will never have to worry about anything falling out. The pockets are also double stitched or serged for extra strength and are appx 9"x9". They fit a variety of items  from passports, phones, wallets, sunglasses, memory cards, camera filters, chapstick, money, maps, keys and notebooks making them perfect for your days sightseeing, nights out in the city or any time you need to keep your items safe, secure and easily accessible while you still look fantastic. They are also large enough to fit a flask in them - I call this the Prohibition Scarf - a scarf your grandparents would've loved. You might like it for sneaking items into festivals or other events.

So really the only question left is, where will your Speakeasy Travel Scarf take you?

SoWa Vendor Spotlight: We Grow Microgreens

The SoWa Farmers market, located at 500 Harrison Ave, is more than just a market, it's a place where local farmers and specialty food makers come together to feed Boston.  And goodness, we're a hungry city!

We Grow Microgreens LLC has become a staple here at SoWa, for it's sustainable growing practices and local notoriety out of their Roslindale greenhouse.  Lisa Evans and Tim Smith are more than just urban growers, they're cultivating the perfect urban crop.

We Grow Microgreens is changing the way we eat by providing the South End with delicious and highly nutritious microgreens.  What is a microgreen you ask?  As the fine writers at EdibleBoston.com describe them, "they're ubiquitous and cute", "adorable" and becoming a "favorite embellishment for many chefs" including you at home.  Think tiny sprigs of arugula, pea shoots, basil and other garnishes that simply tie the plate together and you've got microgreens.  According to Smith, microgreens were all the rage in the 1960s and '70s, when people simply threw some seeds in a mason jar, add water and voila!  The seeds would sprout, making the perfect garnish for sandwiches, salads and texture to meals.  That trend is back and better than ever.

Not only are they "adorable" but these delicious morsels are insanely high in nutrients.  Just check out the vast list of health benefits from noshing down on these greens.  Just ask Evans who says "once you've gone micro, there's no going back".

SoWa Vendor Spotlight: LOVE POP

I'm sure you've seen these quirky origami-like cards around New England, but a Lovepop is more than just a greeting card, it's some serious love in an envelope.

The intricate 3D paper sculptures are designed by naval engineers on cutting edge software and then hand-crafted in the Asian art form of slice form kirigami. Whether it’s a wedding or a birthday, if you’re saying thanks (for not mentioning that thing that happened in Vegas) or celebrating (a co-worker’s compulsive love of cats), they’ve got you covered.

Lovepop founders Wombi Rose and John Wise became best friends at Webb Institute training to become naval architects. After school, the duo traveled to Vietnam where they discovered incredible hand-crafted paper cards. They headed back to Boston and put the cards in the hands of friends, family, and strangers--and watched. That moment when someone opened a card and saw the paper sculpture revealed for the first time became their obsession, and Lovepop was born.

The two launched Lovepop out out of the Harvard Innovation Lab in late 2014. Since then, they were named to the 2015 Techstars class, nominated for 50 on Fire by BostInno, gained the confidence of professional investors, and have been featured on The View, Shark Tank, Good Morning America and more!

SoWa Vendor Spotlight: Nutty Life

Nutty Life is passionate about bringing you delicious nut milks made with only fresh, organic ingredients.  Their milks are full of love and free of additives, gluten, and dairy.

Shortly after Nutty Life founder Caroline's 21st birthday, she became lactose intolerant.  She started drinking the un-refrigerated almond milk found at the grocery store.  As she grew more health conscious, Caroline became curious as to how the almond milk she was buying didn't need to be refrigerated.  After extensive research, she learned information about the ingredients found in these milks that blew her away! For example, most leading brands of almond milk contain only 2% almonds. On the contrary, each jar of Nutty Life contains 35% nuts! Their milks are full-bodied, filling, and mouth-watering good!

Nutty Life is proud to introduce Boston's best additive-free nut milk delivery service. They can be found locally on the shelves at Bee's Knees Supply Company in Allston, MA (1316 Commonwealth Avenue Boston, MA 02134) and are proudly making the nut milk for Gracenote Coffee near South Station in Boston.

SoWa Vendor Spotlight: Red & Wolf

Red + Wolf isn't just your average stationary vendor here at SoWa Boston.  The eco-friendly greeting cards do more than put a smile on their receiver's face, they help raise money and awareness to the beautiful endangered species that grace each card and print bought.  Whether you're more of a Rhino or just plain "Turtley" awesome, Red + Wolf has a design for you.

Behind these amazing watercolor illustrations is Rachael and her trusty German Shepherd rescue, Chaco.  Rachael says her inspiration for the company are these incredible endangered species as well as the dying art of the hand-written note.  Not only is Rachael helping us stay connected, but she's doing an amazing job at helping preserve our planet and the creatures in it.

For every card or print sold, $1 goes to The Wildlife Conservation Network.
